Double Yolk Eggs

I got a surprise when I cracked an egg this morning. I got a double yolk one. I remembered reading something about it before that it could mean bad luck or good luck. I'm hoping for the latter one. Let's just say, it's like finding a four-leaf clover.

I also boiled one and this egg looked like it's also double yolk. For such a small egg, it has lots of yellow.

Monday!

I'm off today so I made plans already on what I want to do with my day. My plan really is just to read a book, watch a movie and do some cleaning and laundry. And of course go online from time to time. I told myself I'm not going to stay online and just read and surf and read. That takes a lot of my time and before I know it my day is gone and I haven't done anything but just be online. I'm also trying to limit my time on facebook. I don't post there much anyway but I do use it to communicate with my family and friends. But I do want to write more on this blog. Hopefully, I will.

The weather here this week is kind of rainy and gloomy, so I'm wary of doing some gardening because one scary thing  in Florida is the lightning. Here, lightning can strike even when there's no rain, so one has to be careful of being out in the yard when the weather's not too good.

Tropical Storm Debby

It's the start of the hurricane season. We had nasty weather last night when tropical storm Debby hit Florida with rain and heavy winds. Today, the sun came out,  so hopefully, the weather will not be as dreary as yesterday here. Outside our window, I can see some small tree branches and leaves scattered around. That means some "cleaning up" will have to be done when the weather's fine. Our little friend, the cat, came by so early this morning. I woke up early too, around 6:30 and she was already perched up outside the window sill. She knows where she can find us when she wants to be fed. She became our adopted visitor when she decided we are basically "harmless", lol. It took her awhile to be a friendly cat again. I guess living on the streets and surviving on her own made her really cautious. We didn't find her, she found us. We came home one time and saw her outside our front porch looking so skinny, so we fed  her. And from then on she would come by and it became a regular routine where we would put out food for her. We love our little visitor but we don't let pets inside the house, so we put out a little house for her in the back patio, in case she needs some shelter when the weather gets bad like last night.

In Florida and the Caribbean Islands, the hurricane season starts from June till October, but as the weather is unpredictable, it can also hit during off season months, like May and November. Here's an old Mariner's Poem to share. This poem was published in “Weather Lore” by R. Inwards in 1898.

June- too soon.
July-- stand by!
August-- look out you must.
September-- remember.
October, all over.

or October, Not over.

My Lemon and Apple Tree

I'm finally able to use some of my lemoncito for my iced tea. We make tea all the time and we drink it with orange juice, but nothing beats the taste of tea with lemoncito. And the lemons, smell so good. The lemoncito here is called "calamondin", it bears small green lemons that smell heavenly and is very refreshing as a juice drink. The smell reminds me of my home country, where lemons are sold so inexpensive in the market. My other lemon tree is Meyer Lemon, it has 2 fruits but it seems to stay green for forever. I don't know if it's time to pick them or to wait until they turn yellow. Right now, my lemon trees are all on big pots but i'm thinking of putting them on the ground to give them more room to grow, although I don't want them to grow tall like a really big tree. A small tree would be lovely though. Another thing i'm excited about is my apple tree. My apple tree right now is sprouting leaves, my husband just pruned the top yesterday as he was out in the yard cleaning up my garden.

Summer Rain!

It's raining hard outside right now. The first really heavy rain for summer. I'm glad it's raining 'cos it's been really dry and humid these past few months. The rain will be good for the plants and the grass outside. I'm looking forward to see flowers and lush plants, hopefully, we will have that soon. Some of our plants are wilting and dying due to the harsh florida sun.
